A significant change in the Draft Canal Bye Laws 2024 is the inclusion of S.I. No. 65/2017 – European Union (Recreational Craft and Personal Watercraft) Regulations
In July 2019, the Department of Transport published the Code of Practice – The Safe Operation of Recreational Craft, which presents the contents of this legislation in a more readable format.
‘The Code of Practice is divided into two parts followed by a series of Appendices.
Part A outlines the legislative requirements that apply to all recreational craft or specific types or size of craft. Owners and operators must comply with the requirements appropriate to their craft
Part B contains recommended guidelines and best practice for the safe operation of a range of recreational craft’
Of interest to Boaters on the Inland Waterways are Sailing & Motor Boats and Personal Watercraft, designated as Categories D, E and F.
