Sealock – Lock 1
Sealock is the first Lock on the Boyne Navigation. Its called the Sealock because its tidal on the lower side. The gates on your left are referred to as the Breastgates and ones on your right right are referred to the Tailgates. There are sluices in each of the lockgates, to regulate the level of water in the lock.
The Sealock was built in the 1750’s and it was rebuilt in 1778. You can see the plaque on the far wall close to the Tailgates. David Jebb and John Healy were engineers for this Lock.
