The Corbally Canal, hidden in the heart of County Kildare in Ireland’s Ancient East, is the subject of this Heritage Week Guided Walk by Historian Liam Kenny.
The Canal, a future touring destination for local and visiting boaters, cyclists and walkers, stretches from Naas Harbour to Corbally Harbour, north of Athgarvan, Kilcullen and Newbridge.

The Corbally Canal, hidden away in the heart of County Kildare, within Ireland’s Ancient East, is a future touring destination for local and visiting boaters, cyclists and walkers. The canal stretches from Naas Harbour to Corbally Harbour, north of Athgarvan, Kilcullen and Newbridge.
The Local Authority’s Water Programme state ‘National Heritage Week 2022 focuses on two core themes: sustainable heritage and biodiversity. Water meanders through both themes like a great river through the landscape, shaping the natural, built, and cultural heritage of communities along its path.’
IWAI Kildare’s Corbally Campaign encompasses ‘preserving our past for the future and highlighting the value of water for recreational, cultural, environmental and economic benefits.’
