Welcome to the Inland Waterways of Ireland, Slaney Branch Web page. This homepage is intended to keep Slaney branch members, as well as others in the area, up to date on what is happening in the branch. Relevant articles, pictures etc., preferably in electronic form, are welcomed by the Slaney Branch Webmaster

Improvement work on River Slaney Navigation is now complete. Five new marks have been laid in the Patches, the shallowest, most challenging section. This provides a new, deep water route through the sandbanks. A new port-hand mark has been laid by the Branch at the Point of Park. With these improvements, boating up the river from Wexford to Enniscorthy is now relatively simple provided one takes account of tides.

Three IWAI News articles about the mark laying and Slaney Navigation from Wexford to Enniscorthy are available online here: Part 1. Part 2. Part 3 . The full list of waypoints for the Slaney are available here: Waypoints.

The IWAI is waging a very serious campaign against Waterways Ireland’s plans to introduce new bye-laws controlling all aspects of mooring, tying up, passing through locks and staying in the Barrow, Grand and Royal canal. Though they do not affect the Slaney it is likely that if they are not successfully challenged the WI could visit even more unfavourable bye-laws on all Irish waterways. See Bye-Laws Campaign
