In this document we present a list of snags that boaters encountered during their travels along the Grand Canal, Royal Canal and River Barrow over a twelve-month period.  We have taken an overarching perspective of the navigation and its management and outline the benefits of these waterways to both water and bank side users.  We illustrate the difficulties encountered and how they affect the progress of vessels.

From this the reader can gain an understanding of the optimum conditions needed to facilitate a trouble-free journey for boats and barges on these navigations.
