The river is very popular with people who like being involved in boating, angling, walking, kayaking, cycling & other outdoor pursuits & has a wonderful Waterways Ireland managed marina right in the heart of the town of Ballinasloe.

Some examples of activities along the river are the impressive marina that the Ballinlough Development Association constructed on the lower end of Lough O Flynn, the excellent walking experience that is The Suck Valley Way which is a circular walking route of 105 Km with lots to do and see along the way. The Suck Valley Way also incorporates a raft of other activities and attractions & also at one time its own visitors center located in the village of Athleauge.  Boat hire for small craft is also available in the area of Castlecoote. In the village of Donamon Co. Roscommon there is an “access for all’ facility consists of 30 fishing stands, which are complimented with dedicated parking bays and ramps with raised sides. These are custom built wheelchair friendly facilities, which allow ease of access to anglers with a disability in mind. There is a number of slipways with more planned also in this area of the river also to allow ease of access. The river is excellent for those that seek out kayaking and canoeing and during the earlier conversations about the possibility of a local branch with potential members the interest levels in kayaking were incredibly high and it is an activity anyone can enjoy & access with ease and it will only increase in popularity.
